Meine ersten Videospielerfahrungen habe ich mit diesen furchtbaren Game & Watch Teilen von Nintendo gemacht und mit dem Atari 2600 (bzw. Atari VCS) - damals noch stilecht am Schwarz/Weiss-Winz-Flimmer-Fernseher mit Drehknöpfen.
Beides vermisse ich eigentlich nicht besonders...
So richtig wurde meine Leidenschaft dann mit dem Commodore 64 und bald darauf dann mit dem Nintendo NES und dem Sega Master System entfacht. Auf alle drei Systeme hatte ich damals aber leider noch nicht unlimitierten Zugang.
Das änderte sich mit dem Amiga 500! Der stand endlich in meinem Zimmer! 24 Stunden, 7 Tage die Woche zocken!!
Naja, okay, meine Eltern gaben schon acht, dass ich auch noch zur Schule ging und zwischendruch auch schlief. Was sie nie wussten: Ich stellte meinen Wecker oft auf 4 Uhr früh, damit ich vor der Schule noch ein bisschen spielen konnte. Hä hä hä!
(Und, nur damit das klar ist: Commodore ist besser als Atari! Hi hi. Ach, die Systemkriege gab es schon damals... - Aber im Ernst: Nach dem 2600er hatte ich eigentlich nie mehr Kontakt mit Atari-Hardware.)
Entsprechend meiner Zugriffsmöglichkeit (und dem regen, äh, Tauschhandel in der Schule), war dann der Amiga auch meine primäre Spieleplattform, die dann bald von meinem eigenen PC komplettiert und später dann auch ersetzt wurde.
Nebenher gab es schon auch SNES und Mega Drive aber die standen damals noch nicht in meinem Zimmer.
Allerdings spiele ich heutzutage am liebsten per Emulator am PC, wo ich freie Wahl der Controller habe und ich Komfortfunktionen wie Stavestates genießen kann. Zeit ist eben kostbar.
Überhaupt habe ich fast meine ganze Retro-Hardware ziemlich fachmännisch eingelagert.
In den 90ern habe ich eine Weile für einen lokalen Radiosender Spiele getestet. Also die Tests geschrieben - moderiert habe ich die Sendung nicht.
Bezeichne ich mich als echten Sammler?
Nun, nein. Zwar habe ich tatsächlich eine richtig coole Sammlung aber ich kaufe keine Spiele, nur damit meine Sammlung größer wird. Im Gegenteil: Ich sehe mich in erster Linie als Spieler. Alles, was ich kaufe, will ich auch spielen - eingeschweißte Originaltitel kommen für mich nicht in Frage!
Bezeichne ich mich als Retro-Gamer?
Ja, das schon. Wenn ich so auf die Auswertung meiner Spielzeit schaue, zeigt sich, dass ich gut dreiviertel meiner Zeit mit Retro-Spielen verbringe.
Waren Spiele früher besser?
Nicht unbedingt. Aber sie hatten mehr Herzblut. Sie haben sich Neues getraut (und fielen manchmal auf die Schnauze). Sie waren reduzierter und nicht so gestreckt. Das gefällt mir auch heute noch.
Aber ich spiele auch Neues und dies gerne. Ich mag auch so neumodisches Zeugs wie VR.
Und nun, da mein Sohn langsam ins Gamer-Alter kommt, bilde ich ihn als mein Retro-Padawan aus. Ich entschuldige mich also schon mal im Voraus für all die Sohnemann-Geschichten, die ich eventuell (und hoffentlich) mit Stolz geschwellter Brust erzählen werde.
